The Beginning of Texas Federation of Music Clubs

FOREWORD

The Texas Federation of Music Clubs was organized at Brownwood in October,1915. The organization is the outcome of a strong desire on the part of the music clubs of the State for a definite and central medium through which to carry on the work peculiarly belonging to the music clubs, namely, the advancement of music in its many phases.

The organization owes its existence, in great measure, to the untiring efforts of Mrs. Louise Pace, the efficient Chairman of Music for the past two years, of the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs.

All music clubs affiliated with the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs, by virtue of this membership, now become members of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs and will send delegates, make reports and pay dues to the new Federation instead of to the parent organization. The Fiscal year dates from April the first and all clubs are requested to send dues as required by the Constitution, to the Treasurer on or before that date. (Note: Current TFMC fiscal year is July 1—June 30 ed.)

It is earnestly desired that all music clubs in the State affiliate with the Texas Federation of Music Clubs and assist with this interest and co-operation in the work for the advancement of music in Texas.

Clubs not formerly affiliated with the Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs will send application for membership together with Constitution and By-Laws, to the First Vice-President, Mrs. Joseph G. Wren of Waco, who is Chairman of the

Club Extension Committee.

Our first annual meeting will be held in Waco on May 3, 4, and 5, and it is the earnest wish of your President that every club be represented at this meeting by its President and one delegate and that as many other club members as possible attend this meeting. All committees recently appointed by the Executive Board will make reports of work already done and of plans for the future at this meeting.

In fact, the work of the Texas Federation of Music Clubs will be definitely launched at this time, and it is very necessary that we have a full representation of the music clubs of the State. Individuals interested in music who are not members of music clubs will also be welcome at this meeting. They may become Associate members of the Federation as provided in the Constitution.

In addition to a splendid program which is being arranged by our own Program Committee, we shall have the opportunity at this time of hearing the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, which will play two concerts in Waco on May 3.

Delegates to our meeting will be guests at one of these performances. Waco is making splendid plans for our benefit and entertainment and the meetings will be most interesting and advantageous.
